* Music-minded video site Noisey caught The Growlers' show at The End last month. There's a lot of footage of their performance in there, but there are also interviews with show promoter/sound guy Jesse Baker, record peddler Anna Lundy of Grimey's and Third Man Records honcho Ben Swank, in which those in-the-know cats talk a bit about our local rock scene. Swank even notes the admirable "lack of negativity" in our scene. What a dick. Jay kay. See the intro/interview vid above, and performance vids at Noisey.
* Remember blues-punk wunderkinds Fox Fun? I've talked about 'em, as has The Spin. High school kids with an ear for indie rock- and classic rock-inspired garage punk. They have a self-titled EP, and you can stream or download it via their Bandcamp page. [Via WOTT]
* Speaking of Nashville outfits with brand-new EPs, let's talk LEAGUES. Their debut, Summer EP, was recorded by Vance Powell, who you may know for his work with Jack White, The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather and Third Man Records at large. It's a three-song collection of instrumentally rich, arena-minded, pop-savvy rock, and you can stream it at their Facebook page or download it via iTunes.
* Nashville-based metal site Metal Underground has a round-up of local metal covers outfits. The post mostly covers The Mighty Dan Halen and Metal at Mercy, and writer Frank Serafine says, "Check back every Monday as we delve into a different scene or genre to unearth some new underground metal bands." Local metalheads: Keep your eye on this one.
