The Protomen and Those Darlins to Play Free Press Summerfest, The Features Get Press in Time and Caitlin Rose Gets Press From Spin [Press-y Bits]

* Locals Those Darlins and The Protomen are playing with Weezer, Big Boi, Sharon Jones, Chromeo, Ween, Cut Copy and Yeasayer! Well, I mean, it’s at a festival. But still. In addition to the notable locals playing Free Press Summerfest down in Houston (June 4 & 5), I primarily wanted to post about this one because of their next-level festival mascot. A mermaid eagle rabbit — or merglebit, I suppose you could say — with a third eye? Sign me up.

* Time recently ran their summer entertainment preview, and The Features’ forthcoming full-length Wilderness (out July 26) earned a mention. Sure, said mention was penned by former Scene writer Claire Suddath, but she’s right on the money in saying the record — The Features’ third full-length release — is peppered with “keyboards, energetic drum riffs and hand claps to spur along front man Matt Pelham's plaintive wails.”

* Caitlin Rose’s Own Side Now just earned an 8/10 rating from Spin’s David Menconi, who places Rose’s croon somewhere between “a pissed-off Emmylou” and “a mellow Lucinda, if you can imagine such a thing.” Who needs to imagine a pissy-mellow Emmylucinda when you can just listen to Cato Rose?
