OK, wait — has the format for VH1's Storytellers changed? I seem to remember the artists telling the stories behind their songs (while onstage), to an attentive, bookish audience that made them look really important, and made the moment look really awkward and pretentious on television.
The above clip — previewing locals Kings of Leon's installment of the show, which was taped a month or so ago in Franklin and airs tonight at 10 p.m. — shows Caleb & Co. musing on the roots of their rock in a pre-taped interview before cutting to a live performance of their 2010 single "Radioactive." I'm not sure if the actual episode will follow this format, but I actually would prefer it. I can't stand the sound of seated crowds golf-clapping then hushing to pin-drop silence as a rock star starts talking. It's like the full-circle from playing open mics to reflecting on a career of success. And the elder Followill bros. did get their start at The Bluebird. Anyway, enjoy this preview.
