From the Internet’s funny pages (which, in this case, means Pollstar): While accepting the Detroit branch of the NAACP’s Great Expectations Award at a fundraising dinner last night, self-proclaimed cowboy and American badass Kid Rock said his onstage use of the Confederate flag has nothing to do with his love for black people, and everything to do with his love for Lynyrd Skynyrd.
"I love America. I love Detroit, and I love black people," Rock told the thousands-strong crowd inside Motor City’s Cobo Hall. Outside, “about 50” people picketed and burned a rebel flag "replica" in protest of the organization’s decision to honor the rocker — the honor, by the way, was primarily in praise of his various philanthropic commitments and contributions to the city. Rock called the controversy surrounding his use of the flag a “fiasco,” stressing that he has “never flown that flag with any hate in [his] heart,” before announcing a $50,000 donation to a myriad of civic-minded organizations, in addition to a separate $50,000 donation toward Southern storm relief in the wake of last week’s disasters down this-a-way. Way to go on the generous contributions, Kid. Not so much on the flag thing. You should stop flying that fucker. For real. See the above video for a round-table discussion.
