There’s a list of this year’s most enticing RSD-only releases — I picked the more noteworthy stuff from the master list — which includes reissues, special new releases, outtakes and live recordings from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, The Rolling Stones, 13th Floor Elevators, Television, Built to Spill, The dB's, Grinderman, AC/DC, Michael Jackson, New York Dolls, Queen, Nirvana, The Beach Boys, Raphael Saadiq, The Velvet Underground, The Yardbirds, Vivian Girls, Wild Flag and so much more. I also put together comprehensive round-ups of all the shindigs going down at local shops Grimey’s, The Groove, Third Man and The Great Escape. GREAT ESCAPE:

At both of Great Escape's Nashville-area locations — one at 5400 Charlotte Ave., the other at 111-B Gallatin Ave. N. in Madison — all used music will be 20 percent off. That includes LPs, CDs and cassettes. Both locations will also feature giveaways, marked-down new items, and plenty of the special RSD releases you'll be looking for. No live performances, as neither store has much of a spot for bands to play ever since the Broadway location shuttered. Good times and good tunes abound nonetheless. Both stores open at 9 a.m.


GRIMEY’S:

Nashville's flagship indie record shop kicks things off at 10 a.m., with RSD releases racked in the back parking lot. There will be a Save WRVU booth, beer from Yazoo, barbecue from the United Records folks and more, and those scamps Matt & Kim will swing by at 4 p.m. to kick it and sign copies of their "Block After Block" 7-inch. Performances are as follows:

There will also be three films screening downstairs in The Basement, showing in conjunction with the Nashville Film Festival. Broke*, a doc about the record industry — and really, what the record industry is turning into — will show at 12:30 p.m. Heavy Metal Picnic — a film from the makers of Heavy Metal Parking Lot that, well, appears to be a lot like Heavy Metal Parking Lot — will screen at 2 p.m., feat. a Q&A with the director. And finally, Better Than Something: Jay Reatard, a doc about the late Memphis punk-rocker, will show at 4:30 p.m. (I got the chance to screen Better Than Something, and I was absolutely impressed. More coverage on that to come.)


THE GROOVE:

For those who still haven't checked out The Groove's relatively new location at 1103 Calvin Ave. — just off Gallatin Ave. and next-door to one of my favorite meat-and-three joints, Tom's Elite — here's a prime opportunity to get to it. Commencing at 10 a.m., the day's festivities will once again be hosted by Cream cohort, Chris Crofton Show host and prolific caffeine-fueled jester Chris Crofton. Aside from official RSD releases, everything in the store will be 15 percent off, with discounted vinyl and CDs outside. There will be performances from the following:

THIRD MAN RECORDS:

All right. We all know the big news about The Killer. However, tickets to see Jerry Lee Lewis at Third Man — he plays at 5 p.m., as it happens — sold out in a remarkably swift manner. (That doesn't mean some folks won't still try to make it happen.) Lewis' backing band will feature legendary go-to Stax guitarist Steve Cropper, sometime Dylan and Young drummer Jim Keltner, and bassist "Little" Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs, The Greenhornes, The Dead Weather and more. (Solid gig you landed there, LJ.) UPDATE: Third Man Records moved the festivities outdoors and released an additional 300 tickets. See more details here.

Anyhow, even if you didn't manage to snag tix to TMR's hot-ticket event, the shop and the Third Man Rolling Record Store will be open at 11:30 a.m. They'll be selling — as Steve mentioned — the following four special releases:
