The last time we saw Atlanta-by-way-of-Antioch-by-way-of-Alabama MC Yelawolf at Mercy was possibly one of the oddest lineups we’ve ever seen in our life. Jim Lauderdale and The Features are great, but they don’t make the best bread for a “Box Chevy” sandwich, if you know what we’re saying. That said, Yelawolf put on an incredible show for a handful of industry people, and it was great. (Side note: Do industry folks actually count as people? This has always confused us.) Anyway, when Yela made his way back to town earlier in the year to play an actual show for actual fans, it confirmed all of our suspicions: The dude works the crowd like a master, and the audience responds in turn by getting buck-fucking-wild. If you’re looking for a high-energy hip-hop show, you could do a lot worse than getting right up in the thick of things when Yela pops the trunk.
Just don't get your venues twisted and show up downstairs at Cannery for this. Know what I'm sayin'? Lance does.
