One of the most electrifying performances I saw at last year's Bonnaroo was a half-hour of psych-cumbia (or "Electro Vacilón," as they call it) from Bogota, Colombia's Bomba Estéreo. This was early in the day on the relatively tiny Sonic Stage, they had just played one of the tents, and they didn't set up any of their keyboards or blippy-bloops. They just straight rocked stripped-down arrangements of their stuff, and blew me away with one of the most badass performances I've ever seen. No recording I've heard has come close to capturing the chemistry and charisma this band has while onstage — though I've listened to their record Blow Up plenty since last June — so all I can say is you have got to see them when they play Mai on May 2. Looks like early bird tickets are $15 while they last over at Eventbrite.
