* NPR — which, for now, remains a partially government-funded entity — is gearing up for SXSW. In addition to NPR announcing the lineups of the three shows they’ll be broadcasting on March 16, 17 & 19, the most recent broadcast of All Songs Considered was their South by Southwest 2011 preview episode. Host Bob Boilen & Co. dorked out over some of the artists who’ll be playing in Austin later this month, and among the artists they hyped was Nashville-based fiddle vixen Amanda Shires. Skip to roughly 52 minutes to hear her segment.
* Next Big Nashville recently announced the lineup for their showcase at Maggie Mae’s Gibson Room on Thursday, March 17. Artists include Tristen, Kopecky Family Band, Natalie Prass, Kyle Andrews and more. They’re also helping produce (along with American Songwriter) a day party March 16 at The Swan Dive that will feature Keegan DeWitt, Jason Isbell, Caitlin Rose, Hayes Carll, Jessica Lea Mayfield and more. There will also be a “Nashville Now” panel at the Austin Convention Center on March 19, with panelists including NBN honcho Jason Moon Wilkins, Grimey’s honcho Grimey, Third Man Records honcho Ben Swank, lead Turbo Fruit Jonas Stein and more.
* Heypenny recently announced all of their SXSW appearances, which you can see after the jump. They also just got some love for their Feb. 19 show at Lexington, Ky.’s Cosmic Charlie’s over on You Ain’t No Picasso. Apparently the crowd was brutal, but the 'Penny maintained that trademark unwavering energy of theirs.
