Wild Flag to Play Mercy Lounge, Mar. 22

I hate to use the term supergroup, but here: Wild Flag are coming to Nashville, and they're playing at Mercy Lounge on Mar. 22. if you ain't already heard, their lineup is way stacked: Carrie Brownstein, Janet Weiss, Mary Timony and Rebecca Cole.

I've already stated that Brownstein is one of my favorite guitar players, and DPR has already stated that Weiss is one of his favorite rock drummers, a sentiment I heartily co-sign. Just those two in a band, as they were in Sleater-Kinney, would be plenty for me, but the addition of Cole, late of The Minders, and Timony, who you should know from her Helium days, but honestly, has only gotten better since, and the deal is sealed. All we know about the Wild Flag debut album is that it's still TBA but supposedly due early this year on Merge. Maybe early enough to be out before this show. Or not. In the meantime, we are told the answer to the question "What is the sound of an avalanche taking out a dolphin?" is "Wild Flag," and that's good enough for me.

Sharing the bill is Grass Widow, an indie-twang-psych KRS band from San Francisco that sounds like this. If you're not crazy on this show, I don't even know what to say to you.
