Above is the gorgeous video for "Black Coal" — shot in West Virginia on Super 16mm — from locals Stone Jack Jones. It was directed by Zack Spiger and photographed by Spiger and Madison Rowley, with editorial by Sacha Szwarc and film scanning and grading by Eric Rosen at Lightpress — hey, it takes a lot of people to make such a striking video. The video's been up for a couple of months now, but it recently garnered over 50,000 views (!), probably because it conjures thoughts of life and death and dying and beauty and agony and the insignificance (and significance) of being a human. You know, all that stuff that art's supposed to make you think about, when the Internet ain't getting in the way. Hats off to these guys.
