Local musician Jamie Sky (Blacklist Royals, ex-The Jersey Sky) brought an ambitious task on himself in hosting this week's Rock the Block on Elliston Place. With 16 local bands on the bill, and 24 featured on the accompanying compilation, there was a certain risk involved in including so many contrasting acts and releasing an absolutely free CD, but the Cream supports this genre-dissolving move.

I personally can't wait to see the likes of Blacklist Royals, Modernhell, Worker, Cannomen, Murdock, Little Viking, Spero, The Armed Forces and a recently reunited The Hollywood Kills all in one massive and extravagant Christmas Spectacular, as well as hearing fresh and uncovered tracks from Pujol, Dylan Jones, Buffalo Clover and the new straightedge kids on the block, ENOUGH. The show/comp is appropriately titled One and showcases some of the best young acts the city has to offer, each a trendsetter in their respective area of rock ’n' roll.

The party starts at 8 p.m. with guest MC Beth Walker serving up the bands on a silver platter, hopefully in a racy Santa costume. The sets will be staggered so attendees won't miss a golden minute. Cover is $Free.95 and includes jams in the compact disc form. See you block-rockers there!
