Frank the Fuck Out's Final Show on Saturday at Springwater

Maybe it's the Seasonal Affective Disorder, but December is turning out to be kind of a downer when it comes to local rock. First, Magic Hammer/RainbowDragonEyes rode their 8-bit power metal horse off into the sunset, and now local hardcore punk trio Frank the Fuck Out is calling it quits. With one of their members leaving Nashville, they're packing up their anti-Reagan, anti-shopping-mall, anti-suburban-complacency anthems for good following their last show at Springwater tomorrow.

FTFO was only around for about a year, and I don't think I saw them more than three times, but somehow they earned a place as one of my favorite local punk bands that hadn't quite broken through. It's not often that you find a band clearly inspired by '80s hardcore political punk that doesn't take itself deathly seriously. Their Next Big Nashville show at The 5 Spot may have been overshadowed by Japanese superhero punk and John Bruton's wedding, but everybody who was there was impressed. How could you not be impressed by a band that has a song that starts out with "I work at the mall because I'm an alcoholic / And I'm an alcoholic because I work at the mall?" How topical!

The Franks play their last show on Saturday at Springwater with Internet video stars Diarrhea Planet and Clorange. There's no word on cover, but it will probably be $5. Show starts at Springwater O'Clock. (Let's say 10-ish.)
