Here's a nice old soul jam, "(I Want to Be Free) Don't Want No One Standing Over Me," by Little Royal, apparently from 1973 on the Nashville-based Tri-Us label. Not much out there about this one, but the Stepfather of Soul has a little bit on Royal:
"Little" Royal Torrance had a sound that was probably too derivative to ever elevate him from the B-list of soul artists, particularly considering that his vocals were very similar to those of James Brown. Despite this limitation, Royal recorded fairly frequently in the '60s and '70s for labels including Carnival, Excello and Tri-Us, a Starday-King label.
Any of you collector types out there got a line on this little slab of wax?
