Cough Tonight at Little Hamilton

Is it just me, or has it been a good couple weeks for metal shows? Cough are bringing their sludgy Virginian doom to Little Hamilton tonight, and if you've got any face left from the Liturgy show at The End last night, you should probably show it. Cough are one of those bands that I kinda wish pronounced their name differently. Like, "cuff." That would be funny, since English is funny because "tough" and "cough" don't rhyme, but they should. Anyway. Here's Maloney's Critic's Pick:

Imagine, if you will, a perfect Saturday morning: the sun rising over the Tennessee hills, a good cup of tea, funny cat videos on the YouTube. Now imagine the one other early-riser you know dropping you a link to one of the best, most psychedelic doom-metal records you've heard all year — and this has been a damn good year for psych-doom. Now, courtesy of Cough, throw in the brand-new Relapse release Ritual Abuse and a lil' bit of the ol' sticky-icky, and your perfect, lazy Saturday morning has become even, er, perfect-er. Sure, some folks might not agree that 12 minutes of droning flange, reverb-drenched vocals and two-chord riffs is this best way to start the day, but those folks probably own Leona Lewis records, and their opinion doesn't count anyway. Cough are joined by local purveyors of post-apocalyptic spaghetti-Western metal Across Tundras.

9 p.m. at 1318 Little Hamilton St.
