When they're not calling former Scene writers douchebags, the Canadian band Stars are often playing music. Tonight, that's what they'll be doing at The Cannery Ballroom, as picked by Seth Graves in this week's glossy:

Want to make it nearly impossible for would-be digital thieves to hijack your music online? Just name your band something as un-Google-able as “Stars.” However, if that were their intention, they would have named their newest album something like Red Dwarf instead of The Five Ghosts. This Montreal-by-way-of-New-York-by-way-of-Toronto indie-pop offshoot of indie super-group Broken Social Scene has been putting out creatively titled records for a decade now, and their aforementioned and self-released latest continues a tradition of elaborately earnest, electronica-tinged pop, this time going even heavier on the electro tip, generously utilizing electronic instruments from the ’80s. It all results in a sound that’s either retro or dated — critically inclined bloggers are still trying to decide which.

This being the proverbial day of show, tickets are now $20. Show starts at 9 p.m. and Wild Nothing open.
