One thing we didn't get notice of before the paper went to press: Kings of Leon singer Caleb Followill will be the subject of this year's Artist Keynote Interview. That will be at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday) at the Curb Center. Try not to get a parking ticket like I did. (At least it had a kind note at the end: "Also, this isn't really a parking space.") Anyway, non-conference goings-on start going on tonight as well, and here some highlights:
* And the World Opened Up is a documentary/concert film featuring Nashville's own Brooke Waggoner. It's showing at 6:30 p.m. tonight at The Belcourt.
* As mentioned in last week's print edition, former Pedro the Lion frontman David Bazan will break the champagne on the festival bough tonight with The Mynabirds. Of The Mynabirds, Edd Hurt wrote: "Formerly half of the power-pop duo Georgie James, Burhenn moved to Omaha to make the record, and sounds as if she spent the time curled up with the complete works of Cass Elliot and Lorraine Ellison. The tunes meander, but the chord changes are sharp, and Burhenn sings like soul music can wash away any heartache." 9 p.m. at Mercy Lounge.
* Tristen, The Mattoid and Jasmin Kaset play The Basement, and you know what? We heart all of them.
* Megan McCormick is at 12th & Porter, with Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights, The Silver Seas and more. Check out Jewly Hight's feature on McCormick from earlier this year.
Let's get festy!
