Big plans for Little Hamilton as the south Nashty arts, crafts and music collective expands their space — best known for hosting performances from local and national D.I.Y. fare — to include a storefront. Dubbed the Red State General Store, this new five-and-dime is essentially a boutique built around the offbeat, anomalous art, events and culture the collective celebrates, selling one-of-a-kind screen prints, buttons, patches, jewelry, clothing, radical literature, zines and clothing. They will specialize in stocking books and posters from Microcosm Publishing, AK Press and the JustSeeds Artists’ Cooperative, among others, in addition to maintaining an in-store music distro for selling releases by the bands who play there.

The collective and store — located at 1318 Little Hamilton St., near the Fairgrounds — will celebrate the Red State grand opening tomorrow at 2 p.m. with a free, all-ages event that will feature performances courtesy of Lazy Susan and The Dumbwaiters. If that’s not incentive enough, there were also be refreshments.

Additionally, Little Hammy rep Molly Meinbresse encourages anyone interested in consigning their crafts and vending their own vendibles at the store to contact them or come to one of their weekly Monday night meetings. Visit their Myspace for more info.
