But first, the Connection in question:
The Sonic Youth concert at City Hall in April '08 - m4w - 25 (Nashville)
Okay, this is a longshot, but here goes: I was standing in the very front and center of the stage (I have brown/auburn hair, and was wearing a black polo and jeans). You (tall, brunette, very pretty) tapped me on my shoulder at the end of their set, before the encore. Tell me what you said to me so I'll know it's you.
Long shot? The longest shot heard round the world, my friend, even for two brunettes. Look, we all have chance encounters with unexpected staying power. But for two whole years? What are you, old or something? But you don't stop there:
I'm probably coming off as obsessive, but I've thought a lot about that brief moment over the last couple of years and really wish I wouldn't have been so unsociable/rude with you. I hope to hear from you.
Yes, you're coming off as obsessed, like Julian Sands in Boxing Helena. But seriously, what'd ya do, Mr. Cranky? What really happened here? Spurgeon theorizes, I think correctly, that the lady in question probably asked if she could stand in front of him for the encore and he blew her off, because rock is more important than love. Or maybe she asked him to hold her spot while she got another beer, or tried to bum his last Marlboro Light.
AND, what's weirder? Obsessing over some chick you saw at a show once for two whole years, or actually still remembering exactly what you wore to a Sonic Youth show in April of 2008? At the doesn't-even-exist-anymore City Hall?
What happens if the place your Missed Connection happened closes? Does the Connection vanish into the ether, or does it become imprinted into the very fabric of a place, like those creepy place memories ghost hunter types are always talking about? (And why do guys always feel totally fine about copping to this kind of obsessive behavior? Reverse the genders, and she's Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction. Meanwhile, he just gets off as looking like lovable schlub John Cusack in Say Anything.)
But anyway, let's say that by some transformative power of the universe, this missed connection gets unmissed. Won't it suck to not even be able to visit the venue where your love first didn't bloom? Think about it: You'd have to go to Urban Outfitters and try to reenact the whole moment in front of a rack of Free People dresses.
Anyway, we were at that show, and there's even pics. Best of luck, freaks!
