Six Degrees of Video Round-Up: Tim Chad and Sherry, Teenage F.B.I., Billy Currington, Nickelback and The Dead Weather

* Tim Chad and Sherry have a new record. It’s called Baby We Can Work It Out, and as you can see, principal member and former Silver Jews drummer Brian Kotzur is very serious about getting smooth, funky and lascivious. Hey! You got some of your vanilla in my R&B! Tim Chad will be playing an in-store at Grimey’s this Saturday, July 17, at 5 p.m.

* You guys know all about Heedfest, right? Where my 37-year-old, basement-dwelling indie-rockers-turned-nine-to-fivers at?? The Robert Pollard-inspired fest went down in Dayton, Ohio, last weekend, and Nashville’s own Guided by Voices tribute outfit, Teenage F.B.I. — featuring Dave Paulson of The Privates, Ryan Ervin of The Carter Administration and Eric Williams of Lone Official, among others — put on a performance of their own. See clips here and here. Dude rock. Rock dudes.

* This is where everything begins to intersect: Country star Billy Currington has a new music video for his song, “Pretty Good at Drinkin’ Beer,” and it stars Eric Williams (from Teenage F.B.I.) as a lovably goofy beer pong prodigy. His best friend is portrayed by Tim Chad and Sherry’s Brian Kotzur. Weirdest part? I was supposed to play Kotzur’s role. No foolin’. They ended up rescheduling the shoot for the week of Bonnaroo, and you know what? I still got a handsome cancellation fee. Gettin’ paid to do nothing! You’ve gotta love the country-music industry.

* Speaking of country music, Nickelback have gone country. Take a moment to let how awful that sounds sink in. I have not watched their video for "This Afternoon." You can.

* Alright ... this one doesn't really work with the whole Six Degrees model, but it's a cool enough video. A few weeks back we posted the video for The Dead Weather’s “Blue Blood Blues,” which was clearly shot in Jack White’s local rock ‘n’ roll citadel, Third Man Records. But we didn’t post their video for “Gasoline,” which was released at the same time. It features a single, time-lapsed shot of artist Max Neutra painting a snazzy portrait of Alison Mosshart.
