1986.

It was not a good year for space shuttles named Challenger, professional baseball players named Bill Buckner or Bay Area punk bands named Dead Kennedys.

It was, however, a good year for Bears. And for cult-taunting synth auteurs, as one Brandon Jazz shuffled on this mortal coil that year. (If you haven't been keeping up with the B-Jazzler, here are a few of his latest antics.) El B.J. is using tonight's 8 off 8th as his own personal birthday party:

"To commemorate the first and only birth of this iconic figure, guests are invited to consume cake while listening to eight separate musical acts as they attempt to re-create the magic and unfold the mysteries of the tweaked out 80's. ... Each of the following bands will be performing a number one hit from the most fantastic year of all time:"

Those bands are Loose Cougar, Armed Forces (natch), Zut Alors, The Roses, Cheer Up Charlie Daniels, Bravo Max, Sarah Silva and Sage Galesi. Unless you go by the flier, in which case Majestico is playing. Update: Majestico are not playing. Go for the cake, stay for whatever bands are playing Falco.

And there you have it. As always, 8 off 8th is at Mercy Lounge, starts at 9 p.m., and is free.
