Surely you remember when Jazz & Co. infiltrated our local Scientology Celebrity Centre and proceeded to perform the instant classic “Radical Luv.” To his dismay, the followers of L. Ron Hubbard absolutely LUVED Jazz and his antics. This coming Sunday, May 23, we will see if he receives a similar ovation from the followers of Fred Phelps and the uncorrectably fucked folks of the Westboro Baptist Church.
For those of you who in a need of a primer on the WBC, make sure you have a barf bag ready, these hateful idiots are a nauseating bunch.
The Westboro Baptist Church are the “God Hates Fags” people. You know, the Kansas cult of supposedly Christian wingnuts whose grassroots protest tactics include picketing the funerals of fallen U.S. soldiers, plane crash victims and Coretta Scott King — to name but just a few — in an attempt to convince Americans they’re on God’s shit list for not giving gays the death penalty or something.
In these increasingly polarizing times, “Pastor” Fred Phelps — who makes David Koresh look like Pope John Paul II — has succeeded in unifying America in agreeing that he and his automatons are easily the nation’s most egregious loudmouthed assholes, and that’s saying something. Seriously, even if you’re the kind of person who can’t kill a spider, if you don’t have a recurring fantasy of beating the ever-living shit out of Phelps, then there is something really wrong with you. Just sayin’.
This weekend, the WBC is bound for Nashville, where they plan on protesting the Christ Church, Two Rivers Baptist Church and the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. One can only guess that they plan on blaming the recent Nashville flood on Middle Tennessee’s abounding godlessness and ubiquitous tolerance of the homosexual lifestyle.
Pricks.
While the First Amendment can protect the WBC from being prosecuted for their hate speech, nothing but their failure to appear will be able to protect them from the wrath of Brandon Jazz and his Armed Forces, who plan on following the infamous haters to each of their stops and drowning out their drivel with repeated performances of “Radical Luv.” Hallelujah! Here’s what The Armed Forces had to say in their press release [sic]:
The fabulous Armed Forces have announced a tour in defiance of notorious hategroup The Westboro Baptist Church, who will be picketing several Nashville-area church this Sunday, May 23. At each of the WBC's three stops, The Armed Forces will appear to perform their hit song, "Radical Luv" and others in hopes of drowning out the hate speech.
A brunch and after party celebrating AF’s assured victory will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Mercy Lounge.

seriously, christian or muslim or atheist or buddhist or whatever you are, i think we all need to get out and outnumber and intimidate these people. i don't know Brandon Jazz, but i intend to get out and get his back this sunday. seriously, what could be more fun than being louder than these people, and being too numerous for them to do anyhthing about it?
I think Nashville should organize a "Moon The WBC" party. Get thousands of people out there and drop our drawers in the general direction of these dirtbags. Brown-eye power!
WBC isn't even that religious: its a scam. They provoke people into physical violence and then sue the shit out of them. People like to mess with their vehicles, so they keep cameras running and use the evidence to get compensatory settlements. Whatever you do, don't touch them.
This is the second time I've been forced to rethink Senor Jazz. This is an awesome idea. Make sure you bring as much noise as you can. You're gonna need more than a mic and a track this time.
whether its mooning or radical luv-ing, or just standing quietly in some kind of solidarity of common sense, diversity, acceptance and intelligence, i think thousands of us need to be there to let these people know they're not welcome here.
Protesting the WBC/Phelps clan is exactly what they want. They want you riled up and paying attention.
The best way to slay a troll is to ignore it. Without an audience the troll dies.
of course all of this is probably exactly what they want and it may be more effective to completely ignore them...why is my brain always in a constant, no-win debate with itself about everything?
This is a great idea. I would also like to propose that we set up hidden catapults/spring loaded asphalt/what have you where the WBC will be standing and propel those dick heads into the Cumberland. Let's get these fools looney tunes style. More realistically, mean-mugging and jubilant defiance will ultimately be less gratifying but much more effective. Plus, I ain't got no money for contraptions or a lawyer.
Of course the gnome would know the best way to slay a troll. Sorry, I just couldn't help myself. Also, I don't really care what they want, because regardless of whether they're sincerely being assholes or have some grand scheme of going down as assholes in history there needs to be a common sense opposition. That's what I want.
Here is one of the most excellent ways I've ever heard of to respond to the WBC losers--a student at Univ. of Illinois Chicago set up a booth and collected money that he sent to "queer rights groups such as Human Rights Campaign, International AIDS Foundation and Chicago based Jerusalem Open House. Donations were named in honor of the Westboro Baptist Church" which means that Phelps got nice thank you cards will from the non-profits.

Sheer genius! I think I'll send some money in Phelps' name to a queer org this weekend.
I think 20 dudes should all make-out with each other behind Brandon Jazz as he croons "Radical Luv". That would send a message.
They want attention, but they want angry attention; they want to be provoked. Making fun of them is best and right thing to do.
and ashley, i don't even really consider it "making fun of them", cause i'm not gonna call 'em names. i'm just hoping to make them look silly instead of something that is taken seriously that then provokes outrage.
ya know, like "oh look at that retarded boy singing and dancing in front of that parody of a church family. i don't get it, but let the kids have their fun..."
Jazz, I think we're long past anything that could make this group "look silly." They're among the most shameful, despicable hate groups in the world; truly vile people. They make themselves look silly and idiotic. I want to see someone make them FEEL idiotic. Godspeed.
Tex Rambunctious has your back, Brandon. I hear he has some questions for the WBC folks also. He may get hit in the face but it will be good to see
If anyone really wants to go drown out these assholes here's their schedule:
Christ Church 7:50-8:20am
Two Rivers Baptist 8:45-9:15am
Mt. Zion Baptist 10:30-11:15am
dean, if you can get hit in the face on camera by a WBC member, you will be my hero. its going to be an early sunday morning.
Congratulations, you are playing squarely into their hands.
These people thrive on the opposition generated by their presence. Why else do you think they would post their "schedule" publicly? In their eyes, the more people that they can get to come out and counter them, the more successful their "protest" has been.
If they make the trip from Kansas (that's a 10 hour drive!), and they show up to thousands of people gathered to greet them with their outrage... well, I hope you get the picture.
Imagine driving 10 hours somewhere in hopes of causing a scene, and showing up to a completely empty parking lot. If you want them to feel like their "mission" was a failure, then that is exactly what should happen. If you don't want them to feel welcome, don't even acknowledge that they are coming.
Fiery ones be warned, I am just as disgusted by these fools as you are, but your self-righteous crusade would only give them more reason to continue scheduling more such events in the future.
I agree with the previous poster. I would also suggest contacting local news outlets and demand they give these deranged opportunists NO COVERAGE.
It doesn't matter if you play into their hands or not. Phelps and his clan are nothing but a sideshow. They're never actually going to get their message across or accomplish anything. Their message doesn't even make sense.
However, to make an example of these people and put them on display as a pronounced example of American religious extremism, can accomplish something. It's not about Phelps, it's about showing that for every yapping kook there is 10 or 100 sane people out there.
Let them schedule more events. Let them waste time and resources thinking their futile quest is working. I have a feeling that every time they come out and cause a scene they knock one more potential wing nut off the crazy train.
While the vast majority of Americans aren't likely to ever sympathize with Phelps and the WBC, there are many who support and take cues from Pat Robertson — whose message of God reaping tragedy in response to godlessness is really not that different from Phelps'. And that motherfucker is the face of a T.V. network.
that's exactly the point of this, guys. instead of greeting them with outrage, retaliatory violence, or counter-protests, i want to see their message drowned out and replaced with the sound of music and tambourines and clapping and fun. it is only when a hate group drives you to hate that they win. it's why this is called the "kill 'em with kindness tour".
if we were to get confrontational, it would accomplish nothing at all...it's about taking a negative thing and using it as a springboard for a positive. plus, as gold said, i still believe it's important to make it clear to anyone watching that the vast majority of people aren't so awful.
call me naively optimistic about mankind.
I don't advocate violence, and I guess killing Fred Phelps is not exactly an original thought, but those that enjoy satire might enjoy this:
