The Tennessean's Peter Cooper has just confirmed this via a post on Tune In Music City, reporting Owsley's death as an apparent suicide. In addition to his solo work, Owsley was a member of The Semantics, worked with Shania Twain and was a longtime guitarist for Amy Grant. Grant had the following to say on her website:
We are all reeling today from the news of Will Owsley’s death yesterday. So many of us in Nashville worked with Will, lived with him on the road, celebrated his talents and knew his anguish. Please join us in praying for his family and children.

This is devastating news. Beyond tragic. Will showed me "amazing kindness". Like over and above type stuff that I will never forget. I am just beyond upset by this news. My prayers are with his family who loved him very much.
I seem to recall an email he posted several years ago about his dissatisfaction with the music industry,
his role in it and a general lack of appreciation or support for his work – or something to that effect.
I’m sure he’s been wrestling with these demons for awhile.
How horribly tragic he left a wife and kids behind – not to mention years of potentially untapped music to share with us. His two solo albums are classics – especially his first, and some of the best solo pop music crafted in the last 10+ years.
What a bummer all the way around.
This is horrible news! Will Owsley was a great inspiration to me and my music. My fellow musicians, band members, and I travelled to Columbus Ohio to see him perform songs from his second solo album "The Hard Way". Before and after his great performance he spent a lot of time talking with us. He was very friendly and pleasant. Most rockstars I've met weren't. It will always be a day that I'll remember and cherish. I'm sorry that he's no longer here with us. We really enjoy his music and his talent. We'll miss you Will!
I am just devastated. Worked on his first record, for Giant Recdords. Covered "Sky is Falling" with Jillian Wheeler for WhizKidz Records.
The man was a genius. An immense talent and one of the good ones. You will be missed my friend.
This is so sad. He will be missed. A friend turned me on to his first CD right after it was released. I got to meet and chat with Will before one of his shows at a small club in Santa Barbara, CA. Such a genuine guy, and amazing talent.
This is a horrible shame. His memorial service was yesterday at a church in Anniston, Alabama. I was there and my heart ached for Walker and Liam (his boys), and his family. R.I.P Will Owsley...you will be missed more than most people's comprehension.
There will be a local memorial service for Bill (Will) sometime in the next week. I will post as soon as I know. He was much loved!
