As Adam Gold mentioned on Tuesday, some fine celebratory events are occurring around town on Record Store Day (Saturday, April 17). For the Scene’s paper-based, handheld edition, I threw together a list of happenings at The Groove, Grimey’s, The Great Escape and Third Man Records — we’re talkin’ Emmylou Harris, go-kart auctions, rock-doc screenings, a double-dose of Pujol (whose band sounded RIGHT at the Cream Rock the Block show on Tuesday Night), Chris Crofton, record sales a-plenty and so much more. See it all here.
Now, in the paper you’ll also find my list of 20 intriguing Record Store Day releases. Some good stuff there, including a Wilco box set, reissues from Tom Waits, Velvet Underground and Deerhoof, a surprise from The Beastie Boys, and Beach House’s Zebra EP. While we’re on the subject, I was fortunate enough to interview Beach House’s Alex Scally a couple of weeks back in regard to their April 28 show at Mercy Lounge. Be on the lookout for my feature + interview with Scally next week. Regarding the Zebra EP, he said, “It’ll be cool for super fans, but nothing too special.” Hot quote! He also talked about being in an “Internet band” and about how awesome bandmate Victoria Legrand is. I digress.
