I know what you're thinking: "Right ... but which New Pornographers? All of them? The good ones??" No worries! It's a solid cast this time. Neko Case, Carl "A.C." Newman, Dan Bejar and, you know, the rest. I have to say, Twin Cinema is likely among my top five favorite releases from Canadian supergroups. (And sorry, but nothing tops BSS's You Forgot It in People.)
Very, very strong supporting cast for this show. Alt-folky San Franciscan experimenters The Dodos open, along with Seattle's harmonizing, acoustic-strumming co-ed duo The Dutchess and the Duke. I caught The D and the D along with Gold at The Galaxy Room last week, and while I wasn't as familiar with their material as many of the sloshed SXSWers in attendance, I'll agree that there is a warm, eerie intimacy to their performance. Haven't caught The Dodos in the flesh yet, but 2008's Visiter featured some pretty innovative song construction delivered with an organic and minimalist approach. Or whatever. Tickets are $23 in advance and go on sale right here Friday, March 26, at 10 a.m.
