We told you about Vogue staple/Jack White spouse Karen Elson's debut video for her song "The Ghost Who Walks." Now the Third Man Records artist has a few live dates listed on her MySpace, and the first one is right here in Nashville at The Basement before heading off off to SXSW. (Not sure why this show isn't taking place at Third Man.)
Anyway, it'd be really easy to make a few model-turned-fill-in-the-blank jokes, or spouse-of-famous-guy-attempts-creative-endeavor jokes, especially since I only know semi-dick about Elson beyond her involvement in vintage clothes and her regular presence in Vogue. But, I'm pretty sure I heard years ago -- from someone who said she used to hang around Dave Pajo a while back -- that she has long been interested in pursuing a singing career in her own right.
But, having only heard the Gainsbourg cover with Cat Power and this one song, it's clear Elson is: 1) pleasantly voiced with 2) a penchant for the ethereal. And like all things White Stripes-related, nobody's skimping on the presentation. Which, in this case, means things like Greta Garbo gauze, retro pin-up aesthetics, starkly contrasting imagery, iconic touches and minimal info. Cool. Consider this Basement show proof of whether that'll translate with far less premeditation in the live setting -- assuming anyone can get in the door.
Tickets: $15 @ Grimeys.

She actually dated David Pajo. She also dated James Iha and recorded a full album with him that never got released.
