Two strong bills on this week's radar; both are free, and both feature more local acts than you'll typically catch on a weeknight. The boys at We Own This Town have already determined your plans for this evening, like it or not: "You will be headed to Mercy Lounge for a night of free music from a myriad of local talent that you may or may not have heard of; depending on how closely you pay attention to our podcasts." That one features The New Protestants, The Lake, Goldroom, Cobra Cheetah Tiger Viper, The Kingston Springs, Downtown Handshake, My Tyger & Hanzelle. UPDATE: The Cream's resident gamemaster, Ashley Spurgeon, would like me to inform everyone that Mercy Lounge's Rock 'n' Roll Trivia will take place before the 8 off 8th at 7 p.m. (same as every week). That's free, too, and it's a weekly opportunity to try and outshine Adam Gold in the music knowledge department.

Scene shutterbug and unabashed science nut Steve Cross has also set up a free bill over at Exit/In for tomorrow, Mar. 2. The bands: POWERBRRRD, Jordan Caress, Tristen, We Were the States, Cody Blaine & Bows and Arrows. Both shows are bristling with mostly undersung local rock 'n' roll talent. I know you guys like free things that are bristling. Get on it.

Is a Downtown Handshake a public handie?

I initially wondered if it was a Wilco reference ("Handshake Drugs"). Then I remembered that I'm not a Wilco superfan anymore. So yeah, maybe it is an HJ thing.

Actually, tonight's line up has actually evolved a little bit. In fact, because we care about how much sleep you get on a Monday night, we've truncated tonight's show to seven bands. The past two times we've hosted, there's been a day-of, last-minute, favor-for-a-friend addition resulting in a couple 9 off 8ths (which doesn't really roll off the tongue). So really, if you do the math, we're actually +1 going into this evening.
Here's the batting order:
1. Roy Ira - 9:00
2. The Garden Leo - 9:20
3. Goldroom - 9:40
4. Cobra Cheetah Tiger Viper - 10:00
5. The Kingston Springs - 10:20
6. Downtown Handshake - 10:40
7. My Tyger - 11:00
See y'all tonight!

Glad I didn't write my post encouraging people to check out Hanzelle since they got the ax.

No axing. Just me making mistakes and shit. We'll get 'em in on the next go round.

@Joe - next time out, please bring Hanzelle, but also invite The Lake! I'm biased because I got to work with them, but I think they'd put on a happening set.
