So today's the big day! We're all gonna find out about the new Apple tablet computer/giant iPod touchscreen thingy, whatever it's called, which is maybe "iPad," which does not sound appealing to these ears, or "iSlate," which sounds a little bit better, but also sounds like "isolate" (which is kind of what handheld electronics do to people sometimes).
The big questions here -- aside from the tech spec geekery -- are, of course: WILL IT SAVE PUBLISHING? and WILL IT SAVE RECORD ALBUM SALES?
On the first question: maybe, who knows, lets hope the shit looks cool. On the second question, let me answer with a question: Has Apple's iTunes LP or iTunes Extras changed anything about the way you listen to or buy music? Do you think digital art and "packaging" are ever going to be an integral part of the album as we know it in a new all-digital model?
OK, that was two questions. But still.
I understand trying to match the visual appeal of old-timey LP artwork. (And this thing's big enough to roll a spliffy on!) It's cool to take the large format of the iSlice and use it to expand album art to include video and such -- hopefully one day our computer things will also emit the scent of vinyl and binding glue -- but I just don't think a tablet PC owner is going to feel more inclined to buy an album because it comes with vids or pretty pictures or whatever. I think a lot of people will probably wait for someone else to hack the digital package and then go download what they want out in Torrentland, much like they do now. But that's me. I also think the iSlab or whatever looks really cool, and I want one, and if its existence somehow means people will stop sending me CDs in LP boxes (which totally pisses me off), then I'm all for it.
But I digress. Will albums change? Will it be awesome? Thoughts?

The i pad is absolutely ridiculous. I cannot see myself putting down $400 to $600 to get a device that can't accomplish most of the things which my mobile computer can. I typically like Apple, particularly the iphone. But seems a bit overboard. I wish all of them well but I will not be buying one anytime in the near future.
