I don't know how many of you watched the Haiti telethon Friday night, but I have to say: I haven't hated Sting this little in years! (The presence of ?uestlove on drums might have had something to do with it, but damn if "Driven to Tears" didn't sound like a smart song.) I had to really fight the automatic barf/punch reflex when I saw Kid Rock singing with Sheryl Crow and Keith Urban, too, because, after all, he was doing a good thing. A good thing. I had to keep saying that. I was disappointed by Justin Timberlake's take on Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," but apparently not as disappointed as Ed Koch (!) was by Leonard Cohen. (HT: The Awl on that last one.)
Anyway, anyway. On the local tip, singer Ya Za (who I have a hunch might be an artist to watch out for in 2010) is putting together an EP called We Can Not Ignore: Songs in the Key of Haiti, and she's looking for "Nashville Musicians, Artists, Songwriters, Composers, Lyricists, Poets, Musicians and Engineers to [unite] for a great cause." According to the Facebook group page, pre-production and recording costs will be covered by One Staj Studios. If you're interested in contributing, join up.
