Original Iron Maiden Singer Paul Di'Anno to Play Limelight, Feb. 8

Posted by Adam Gold on Thu, Jan 21, 2010 at 1:48 PM

The indefinite postponement of the Slayer show, originally slated to annihilate Municipal Auditorium next week, has undoubtedly left an emotionally blood-spattered void in the hard hearts of Middle Tennessee's metalheads. While such news has led to said 'heads feeling more forsaken than ever, it's not all bad. Fans of the old school are in for a leather-clad treat as it's been announced that original Iron Maiden singer Paul Di'Anno will appear at Limelight on Feb. 8. Tickets are $15 and you can purchase them here. There's still no word on which hip-hop act will open or which DJ will spin after Di'Anno's set. We do know that Icarus Witch, Noisecult and Piranah will also appear on the bill, and are probably stoked to be playing somewhere other than the Muse.

For those of you whose knowledge of Maiden is only cursory (hey, I first heard about them courtesy of my buds Bill and Ted), the band had a singer before Bruce Dickinson: He was a brutish British butcher named Paul Di'Anno, and his hard-partyin' was just a little too metal for his bandmates -- hence, his exit in 1981. Take a look after the jump to see how his successor, Bruce Dickinson, ruined the band.

He was making a joke, dude. Way to take it super personally. Note to self: Don't go see Piranah. They get butt-hurt way too easily to be considered metal.
Read the rest of a blog before you go mega-commenting on one post like the biggest dork ever. In other words, DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

Obviously you don't know shit about Piranah and obviously you don't know shit about journalism either. We been playing great metal for a long time before you and we'll still be playing great metal long after you as well. As far as The Muse goes we've played there a couple times in the past two years and so what. You too good for it? It's sperm suckers like you who think they are above everthing that completely suck ass (spit or swallow?). We'll play for anyone anywhere cause that's what we enjoy doing. If you don't like it we don't give a shit cause there's alot of good folks out there that do. As far as our name it's our name and we'll spell it the way we want, just like you choose to swallow all those loads. This goes out to you as well Mr. Anonymous. Tell the cookie monster we said hi!!!

The Backwoods Fest in KY seems like a very appropriate place for Piranah to play.

We've played there and had a good time. Just like we're gonna play with Paul Dianno and have a great time ith him. Just like we played with Overkill, Sacred Reich, Doro, Stuck Mojo,Warbringer,Joey Belladonna of Anthrax, and not to mention the afterparty with Five Finger Death Punch and Shadows Fall. It's all about the music!!

The funny thing is, this post never talked any shit about Piranah. I just mentioned that you play at The Muse. Interesting to see that they take that as a diss.

Man...This is way blown out of proportion....Hear me out..k.Adam...You gotta admit it was a bumpy article slamming Bruce who without radio has been in a band that is still one of the few selling out 60,000 plus venues. It is Bruce and all the boys in Iron Maiden that have done very well..You make it sound as if he ruined Iron Maiden when they still are selling tons of CD's and are in constant rotation on Boneyard and other Metal stations. I remember when Logan"The Muse" opened the venue for bands to get started...There has been no Metal venues for several years that do or book what Logan does and for that we are grateful. Chris...I love Piranah but don't take it so seriously..Piranah rocks and has a great bunch of fans.Dont let a simple article get to you. You guys are picking up speed and playing all kinds of venues ...Getting on board with bigger and bigger acts every year. Its a simple article and def. not worth even wasting time ripping each other up...I hope to see ya at the show...Freedom of speech sometimes sucks but......

@F.B. Uhhhhhhh.....dude, did you watch the video posted at the end of the post? My comment about Bruce is made completely in jest -- as lead in to the shreds parody. Maiden never would've become what they became without Bruce. Everybody knows that.

Posting the "Iron Maiden Shreds" video is a cheap shot, and actually writing that Bruce Dickinson "ruined Iron Maiden" is a comment worthy of someone who is truly ignorant, but what can one expect from someone who is crying because he never was/never will be as famous as the people he writes about.
Oh, so you say you posted that in jest....riiiight...so if you did, TAKE IT DOWN. You slag Maiden, Metal in general, then take pot shots at local hard working metal bands?
And then you post a half-assed "disclaimer" about it?
Ok so if you want to do right by everyone, edit the blog entry to demonstrate you truly mean what you say. You ARE capable of editing it, or having someone at the Scene do it for you.
If you do NOT do so, you will only be demonstrating to everyone that your comments are truly your opinion, and that you are an ignorant journalistic hack.
So fix the blog, or don't try to apologize for it.
You owe Piranah an apology. Out of all the venues they play, the shows at the Muse make up only a small percentage (less than 5% per year) of their annual gig schedule.
See your foot? You just shot yourself in it. Way to go.
Either grow up and write professional-level entries for public consumption, or go home and sob to your mommy about how "the mean metal people don't want to play nice wif me *sob!*"

i know this thread is dead, but i'm still looking for a verdict on the 'spelling of piranha' thing. was it intentional to add some flavor (a la N'Sync or INXS), or to distinguish the band from other 'piranha' searches on the internet maybe, or was it unintentional and now there has to be a whole reworking of web pages and myspace pages and stuff? i'm just intrigued. no dog in the fight or anything.

Hey lets not kill the thread let just make it about the show instead....As this should be one great metal show. The opening bands will be cool and Di'Anno sounds great these days and his backing band is really pulling off the Maiden sound...Can't wait to hear some of the old Iron Maiden classics like "Remember Tomorrow", "Killers" and "Murders in the Rue Morgue".....I'd like to see him break out some Battlezone era songs as well....going to be bad ass.....from my understanding Larry I think the first half of your assumption is accurate It was not a spelling mistake.

"If you do NOT do so, you will only be demonstrating to everyone that your comments are truly your opinion, and that you are an ignorant journalistic hack."
What the fuck do you think this all is the word of god dude? Everything you read is somebodies opinion. If you want to hear that your band is great why don't you get your mom to write an article about them.
