News of Jay Reatard's death has brought an outpouring of sympathy and shock in the global music community, and some thoughtful musings from musician types -- Sleater-Kinney's Carrie Brownstein had some pretty stand-out descriptions of Reatard's music.
Meanwhile, there's been some confusion about the investigation. Initial news that the investigation was being handled by the homicide bureau made folks think that meant the case was being pursued as a murder. Actually, that's just the normal protocol to determine cause of death. But then, a local Memphis Fox affiliate reported that the investigation was, in fact, being treated as a homicide, and that police were looking for a possible suspect in the case. A bazillion sites then began linking to that report, which has since been removed from the Fox site. (Here's the cache, but the original link shows the story is gone.) At this point, it seems most likely that the Fox affiliate incorrectly reported it as a homicide investigation.
