The Features Score Another Movie Trailer, for She's out of My League

Posted by Seth Graves on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 2:20 PM

Unless you've been to the movies lately, or just don't care to stay abreast of the latest formulaic, mildly entertaining romantic comedies, then you probably haven't seen this delightful trailer for She's out of My League. More importantly, if you can make it to around the 47th second of said trailer, you'll notice an appearance by popular local rock band The Features. The Features are no stranger to the major motion picture trailer scene at this point. As you may or may not recall, they provided some background jams in the trailer for Mike Judge's Extract last year. Though, it'd be nice to see them make it onto the soundtrack this time, or at least somewhere in the film itself. In the meantime, it'd be pretty sweet to see some more locals breaking into major films -- maybe an anachronistic Heavy Cream track on the upcoming Runaways biopic or hot Jensen Sportag jam during the training montage in the Karate Kid remake? This is the part where I'd like to cut together trailers of my favorite films and include tracks from my favorite Nashville bands, but who has the time for that?

Wow, that looks like a terrible terrible movie -- makes me really happy that my wife only like action films and i will never ever have to sit through another rom com ever again....

Everybody's rappin' like it's a commercial.

From now on any mention of The Features, written or spoken, must be prefaced with the words "popular local rock band."
I don't know why that cracked me up so.
But yeah that movie looks like shit.

Does anybody know why they would put their own song in a movie like this but not cover someone else's song for a commercial?

Ryan, as I understand it, the label wanted them to release the cover as the debut single from their follow-up record. When they expressed hesitance, they were pretty much dropped right away. Again, this is how I'm remembering it, and there are plenty of folks more qualified than me to answer your query.
I probably wouldn't want the first single from my sophomore album to be a hastily recorded Chase commercial Beatles cover either.

Because it wasn't just a song, it was "All You Need Is Love" and it wasn't just a commercial, it was a fucking credit card commercial. It was soulless and wrong in every way I can think of.

I agree, releasing a cover as a first single is very Alien Ant Farm and pretty much ruins you. It's just....this movie.....can't understand.....

Goddam, that 'All You Need is Love' cover has been fucking up my football-watching all season. It's where the guy says "It's ee-zay". Fucking assholes.
If that's the gig the Features turned down, then hats off. At least the trailer is a very short run.
Bleh.

They said they would be happy to use one of their own songs in the commercial, but that it was wrong to record a Beatles cover for a tv commercial.
