Hot Goss Memphis Punker Jay Reatard Dead at 29

Rumors are abuzz in the Tweetosphere and elsewhere, and it looks as though the folks at Goner Records have now confirmed:
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our good friend Jay Reatard. Jay died in his sleep last night. We will pass along information about funeral arrangements when they are made public.
Nothing has been issued regarding cause of death. Reatard was 29 years old. Last we heard from Reatard, he was tweeting that he was feeling sick and beefing with the band Liquor Store. Memphis police have opened a death investigation.

last week I had to go to memphis. my brother and i went in to a deli/convenience store nearby. i walked in and reatard was at the counter. he had some to go grape leaves in his hand. he decided against the purchase and put them back in the cooler. i picked up and purchased said grape leaves. worst fucking grape leaves ever. i seriously almost hurled they were so bad. probably had been in the open air cooler for hours.....good move jay, good fucking move. cocaine, not so good. rip dude.
This is such a sad news. He was a really talented guy. I was lucky enough to meet him once and he seemed like a pretty cool dude. If it is related to cocaine...then damn.
this is really sad news. as his friend said he was capable of doing such (more) good work.

Best grape leaves story ever. Reminds me of sitting next to my grandfather on Santorini, both of us half-drunk under the serious moonlight and eating oily olives straight out of the barrel.
This is a total bummer. I really like Jay Reatard's music and didn't even have a chance to see him live. I think Cheap Time's drummer just started playing with Jay. Jay dying must really suck for everyone involved.
Well for everyone except the people he peed on. I'm pretty sure they don't give a shit.
Jay is the snowman, he makes it wintertime. Heard the streets hongry, well..it's dinner time.

This is seriously really sad. 29 is too young to go. JR and his band were one of the most amazing live acts I saw, the few times I saw them. Jay was incredibly talented, and dedicated his life to his music. Bad start to 2010.
I don't know of a younger, cooler talent. Still sad. Oh well.

yeah doodz, the snow doesn't kill you in your sleep. hes been sick for a couple of weeks. it does really suck for the people that knew him. dude that he peed on definitely cares, they've known each other since they were kids. pick up a copy of "Teenage Hate" and learn something about pure talent.

Don't want to speculate if something (that isn't C) killed him.
But fuck if I don't know a half dozen young people who have got real sick with pneumonia in both Nashville and Memphis in the last couple weeks. You get that and don't let yourself rest and go to the doc and you'll be in the hospital or at the coroners.
