Thrash metal titans Slayer have an album called God Hates Us All
. In an attempt to prove their point, they've canceled all tour dates through April--including their scheduled Nashville appearance Jan. 31 at Municipal Auditorium
--to allow time for bassist/singer Tom Araya to undergo back surgery. Fuck. While back surgery is kind of metal, it's certainly not as metal as honoring the scheduled dates and playing in excruciating pain. Agreed? According to a press release received by the Scene
As unfortunate as this is for so many people--the Megadeth and Testament camps, the concerts' promoters, and, of course, the fans--Tom's health is the number one priority, and this has to happen.
Damn, Slayer, I thought metal was the No. 1 priority. At least tell me that the surgery will be done with "no anesthesia." As you can glean from the statement above, Megadeth and Testament--the show's support acts--will also be forced to cancel as well. Fear not, though; as the press release goes on to say "booking agents for both Slayer and Megadeth are already hard at work rescheduling the tour dates; tickets already purchased for these shows will be honored at the rescheduled dates." We'll keep you posted on a the new date that's hopefully forthcoming.
