The 77 writers from all over North America who voted in the 10th annual Country Music Critics Poll named Brad Paisley Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year and cited his latest release, American Saturday Night, as the year's second best album. They also voted Miranda Lambert's Revolution as the year's best album and her "White Liar" as the year's best single; they also named her Female Vocalist of the Year and runner-up Artist of the Year. Taylor Swift and Jamey Johnson didn't have new albums in 2009, but the voters highlighted them in every other category. Swift was voted Live Act of the Year and Johnson was named Songwriter of the Year; they were voted the third and sixth-best Artists of the Year. Paisley, Lambert, Swift and Johnson dominated the voting for Best Single, occupying nine of the top 14 slots. This foursome represents the Mt. Rushmore of country music's near future--four relatively young singer-songwriters who are inventing new ways to mix carefree jokes and reluctant confessions, twanging guitar and banging drums. It's been a while since the prospects for hillbilly music looked so bright.Poll coordinator Geoffrey Himes also talks to Rosanne Cash about her album of songs her daddy gave her, The List. from the voter comments:
Someone needs to publish some actual market research about all of the new fans that Swift is supposedly bringing into the country genre. Sales stats for similar teen-pop acts like Love and Theft, Gloriana and even Swift's supposed BFF Kellie Pickler suggest that Swift's appeal doesn't automatically transfer to her contemporaries. And that desperation to capitalize on Swift's market has resulted in some of the most lackluster crop of new "artists" to emerge in country music in a generation. Does someone in Nashville genuinely believe that a watered-down Christina Aguilera knockoff (Jessie James) and, more disturbingly, a watered-down BBMak knockoff (Love and Theft) are going to save the genre and, in turn, keep them employed? --Jonathan KeefeCountry Music Critics Poll Results Voter Comments The Charts vs. the Critics The Voters

ask anyone who has seen Love and Theft sing.
anyone, Keefe.
they represent what is missing from your star example:
kick-ass dead-on vocals. singers!
and they write real songs.
BBfuckinmak?
they've had one single.
so they are supposed to be selling like Swift?
you're an idiot.
someone should publish some actual market research on what makes you an authority without having listened to their album.
and we both know you haven't, don't we?
Kellie Pickler isn't a teen-pop act, she's country with fans of all ages. Like everyone else, her sales stats are lower than Swift's because Swift gets far more promotion and airplay on country and pop radio. Underwood and Swift are the most promoted and the only women country radio has let enter the top 5 in years.
Good to see Miranda and Brad doing so well. Really excited about the two of them being on tour together. Miranda's newest record was great- anyone that missed it should definitely check it out. http://www.vevo.com/watch/miranda-lambert/white-liar/USGQ40900077
