A capacity crowd is expected to gather this morning at The Belcourt to pay their respects to Chris Feinstein, the longtime bassist and fixture of Nashville's music scene, who died unexpectedly last week at age 42. The memorial service begins at 11 a.m., and those who remember Feinstein from his tenure in Shadow 15, Bedlam, Iodine, The Questionnaires and Ryan Adams & the Cardinals will want to stop by.

Tommy Womack will officiate, and Will and Jessica Kimbrough (whose Raising Arizona-inspired memories of Feinstein are hilarious) are among those putting the service together. Please share your thoughts here later if you attend.

The memorial yesterday was a strong statement as to what kind of a person Chris was and how is influence touched so many. I'd say his life, though much too short, was a great success. Everyone's stories were wonderful, inspiring, hilarious, moving.....touching. Scott, you were as eloquent as always my friend. Ah....those important years. Now I have to go have a little yogurt with granola and, of course, strawberries. Ooh la la.

I am so sad in Massachusetts to hear that Chris has left us. Each moment spent with Chris always reflected his bright smile and warm heart. This music business is filled with very dear hearts and we are all one....'Chris, thank you for your joy and love....God Speed'....

The memorial was sadly beautiful. It was universally acknowledged that Chris Feinstein was adorable, funny, soulful, generous and hugely talented. Let it not be forgotten that he was also a songwriter, who wrote and co-wrote for all those bands he was in and also with Patty Griffin and Santogold, among others. Chris was a fantastic guitarist and drummer, and not 'just' a bassist---though he was as good as you get on the bass. A singer... comedian... sweetheart... as Tommy Womack so aptly put it, Chris Feinstein was a masterpiece of a human being.
