In the music section of this week's Scene, Team Goldgers polls a select group of local rock luminaries--from Willy T. to Col. Jazzola, Mike Grimes to Wes Traylor, Janet Timmons to Jessi Darlin--on the state of the Nashville rock scene circa 2009.
They ask all the important questions, including what local band ruled Nashville in '09, what trends from this year should be left in the dust, who deserves more coverage and, of course, who deserves less coverage. Some answers are sincere, we think, some maybe not-so-sincere and some...we're not really sure. Pick up a glossy edition for some nice big shiny photos, or go check out the poll on the tubes to see where everybody stacked up.
And while you're at it, check out the final question below the cut.
What did we forget to ask you?
Wes Traylor: When is the cage match?
Chris Crofton: Grey Goose and Diet Coke with onions.
Jeremy Ferguson: I'll take that in 20s and 100s, please.
Loney Hutchins: Venues, ideas for weekly shows or residencies people would like to see in the coming year.
Jake Orrall: You forgot to ask me my New Year's resolution.
Todd Sherwood: Musician that can hold their booze the best. The guitar player from XPIA wins.
Joe Baine Colvert: Once again--just like last year--favorite local releases. In no particular order: Oblio, Tonight, You're Gonna Be a Revelation; Bad Cop, Bad Cop EP; Heypenny, Cop Car EP; Roman Candle, Oh Tall Tree in the Ear; How I Became the Bomb, Deadly Art; Codaphonic, Edison's Rival; Turbo Fruits, Echo Kid; Bows and Arrows,The Escape of the Polkadotopotamus.
Richie Kirkpatrick: I am wearing a 1940s wool shirt by U.S. Army, size 6 long Gap jeans, a 1970s yellow and green New Era hat and Italian leather boots.
Jesse Baker: Favorite album of 2009: Born Empty, The Odyssey Chaoti-Pop Oddity, Modernist Movement records.
Ben Elkins: Where's the beef?
Mike Grimes: What I would love to see: Nashville's version of Quintron and Ms Pussycat.
Dean Shortland: What I love and hate about the Nashville rock scene--let me freestyle on THAT!
Ryan Truso: You should have asked us all for some of the names we post under anonymously [on Nashville Cream].
