Yes yes yes oh hell yes. Seriously, it has been way too long since Apollo Up!
played in this town. Nashville is much safer than Afghanistan! I've really been looking forward to this show for a while, so it's pretty lame that I totally spaced it when it was time to pitch stuff for this week's Critics' Picks section in the paper. Bah. Also, I still find it funny that the first time anyone mentioned Apollo Up! to me they who shall not be named referred to them as a "math rock" band. So I was kinda surprised. But pleasantly. Their last full-length album, which is called Chariots of Fire
and came out forever ago, is damn good
. A dude from Texas who is a retired professional music writer stayed at my house for a few days, and when I put Chariots
on, he made his "Hey, what band is this that I've never heard before?" face and said it was awesome. He also ate breakfast in nothing but his boxer shorts one morning, but that's another story.
Remember that time I got Apollo Up! and Paramore mixed up in my head
? That was pretty fun. Anyway, tonight. The 5 Spot. East Nashville. Firebirds of the Arctic Ice & Private Dancer open. Be there.
