I've never been what you'd call a Stevie Ray Vaughan fan. I never understood what the BFD about SRV was, and I've always left it at that. Also, guitar straps that are two feet wide and have musical notes printed on them tend to give me the douchebumps. But I have to say, this clip of Vaughan (RIP) doing "Superstition" at Starwood (RIP) in the '80s (RIP) is pretty dope. I mean, maybe it's just that this song brings out the best in people, or maybe it's a "Stevie" thing, but whatever it is, I tip my cap (with a giant white feather in it). Not that SRV comes close to touching this incredibleness, mind you, but who could? And it's nice to see people rockin' out in our old outdoor venue with its giant pillars and all that.

"douchebumps" - aren't you just the coolest...or should I say the "dopest"!
You don't deserve to watch this video.....
I was at this show. Joe Cocker opened up. A storm was threatening and during Joe's set it started cranking up but not yet raining. He was singing "You can leave your hat on" and went into one of his famous gutteral growl/screams and at the same time a horizontal burst of lightning burst from behind each side of the stage. It was very close too b/c you could hear and feel the thunder on top of the PA system. It was like Joe was commanding the elements. The band even ducked for a second when it happened. One of my favorite concert stories. The rain ultimately held off although the cloud formations at sunset were incredible. Stevie was awesome that night as well. He was on a creative high at this time of his career and a superb player. The crowd was having a great time w/o being too redneck. Fun, Fun, Fun. I wish I could go back. I miss Starwood.
this video is the coolest, or should i say the dopest? being from the South and not wanting to seem redneck ive always held an aversion to SRV myself but the more i listen the more i dig. johnny lang on the other hand is much more deserving of scorn, dogmatic or otherwise.
but, why do you waste internet ink with comments on what you think of someone's guitar straps? Did you just want to use the word "douchebumps"? I did like your tag of shed and gone though...
Sometimes writers make potentially bad and gratuitous jokes. Sometimes people don't think they are funny. And then, in a fit of missed irony, those people waste time commenting about them. The cycle drones on like the instructions on the back of so many shampoo bottles. Sigh.
The SRV clip is interesting on a geographical level but looses steam being overshadowed by the much more enticing performance from the other Stevie on Sesame Street. Props to Whit though for giving this thread more depth than you would expect on such a curiously divisive topic as a white dude playing stiff blues.
gorgeous.....another flat iron working his intellectual/critical angle to the blues.....have fun listening to the bass-less black keys, white stripes, and their knock- offs while educating us about the blues......haha...kids these days...i'm pretty cetain Buddy Guy would tell you to suck it, and then have Junior Wells cut ya........FRIGGIN EMOS...
