The now-legendary three-month four-month beard-growing competition/community known as Whiskerino--which began this week--is in its final chapter. The internationally celebrated site for facial hair aficionados is curated by local web celeb Michael Eades, and he's decided to call it quits after this year. Bummerino. Well, if the uncharacteristically limited selection of shows this evening doesn't appeal to you, you can always just sit at home and work on that beard. Here are your options:

Ian McLagan of Faces and Small Faces acclaim at 3rd & Lindsley. Maybe Sporty Spice will show up for a number or two. Oh God, just kidding!

Happy Valley's going on down in Murfreesboro at 527 Main Street or whatever the hell it's called. DJ Coach will be spinning. As Maloney puts it, "M'boro does have swagger, in its own weird sort of way."

The Great Affairs w/Wess Floyd and the Daisy Cutters, Trinity James & Big Bad and the Bangtail Cats at The End.

Sky Hi w/Tender Bear & Ballhog at Exit/In.

Signal Path w/Big Gigantic, DJ Dailon & Corleone at 12th & Porter. Apparently "Big Gigantic is the latest in big-beat space funk from the fly-over section of the country." Whatever you say, Malonez!

Space Capone w/The Distribution & Mike Anderson at Mercy Lounge.

Honky Tonk Angels w/Lynn Taylor & Red Caps at The 5 Spot.

Yep. So...that's about it. Srsly. There also may or may not be some East Side folk playing casual sets over at Dino's. No bigs. Feel free to peruse the listings for something more enticing, but I'm afraid selection is relatively limited this fine evening. Please share corrections and further options in the comments, and we'll be back with tomorrow's hotness soon.

Sporty Spice will sing "3 button Hand me down" with us...you will be adaquately entertained.
In all seriousness, I have a friend that called me at one of Ian's gigs in LA during "Debris" - two tears for Ronnie...sniff.

You think Colorado is flyover country? Yeah the hippies are annoying but it's also the land of beer excellence, above average Mexican quisine & snowboarding on very large mountains.

You mostly have to fly over Colorado whenever you're crossing the country. The same way that Iceland is flyover country when going to Europe. I think that's probably what was being referenced.

Ok I know this is useless semantics but really? On the east coast that term definately connotes derision. You have to fly over NYC to get to Boston, does that make it flyover country? I don't buy it.

According to Wikipedia, you're right about it sometimes being pejorative: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flyover_country.
I've never interpreted as anything other than a matter of fact statement.

Flyover = non-coastal = Real America. Don't you guys read liberal blogs/watch cable news?

In the upper Midwest, the phrase "according to Wikipedia" connotes derision.

As I understand it, yes, "flyover" is derisive. Also, however, I'm pretty certain Tennessee is widely considered a flyover state. But I don't think Maloney intended it as anything more than a vague geographical modifier.

I'm really beside myself since it just started dumping here and that means snowboarding at the local mountains! In addition I got my hands on a discount lift tickets card member for a crazy amount of snow resorts!
