This game will actually be easier to play with a handy dandy (and quite glossy) copy of the Scene print edition, but that doesn't come out until tomorrow, so let's play "Spot The Spin" using this pic taken at the Monotonix show at Exit/In the other night. (Click for a bigger version.) As you can see, it's quite the snapshot of the local rock scene, as nearly every notable figure in town made it out to see the Israeli sensations do their thing. Here's your checklist--see if you can spot them all! Adam Gold D. Patrick Rodgers Doyle Davis Loney Hutchins David Berman Patty LeMay Aaron Irons Jon Bruton Emmylou Harris Seth Graves Jack White CreamMaster Alison Krauss Jake Orrall Harmony Korine JEFF Fisher Dave McCowen Nacho Followill Shea Steele Steve Haruch Matt Sullivan

true that... monotonix, adam gold, harmony korine, and dave berman (though converted) account for an above average number of jews for a nashville rock show.

Woah wait, are you saying Dave Berman wasn't born Jewish?

I see my name on the list, but I'm almost certain that I was 4,000 miles away.

His mom was a non-Orthodox convert, which makes him a gentile as far as the Orthodox and Israel are concerned. So he had to convert to be recognized as Jewish by some Jews.
Berman was one of many wrong-half Jews of Middle Tennessee in that age cohort. I blame hippie dads.

'gentile', when you think about it, is a really nice word as far as defining another ethnicity or i guess anything-other-than-your-own-ethinicity/religion goes. way nicer than 'infidel' or something like that. thanks, jewish people!
