Probably known best by the huddled masses of America for the hit single "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?", Britpop act Travis hasn't so much as sniffed the Yank charts in ages--which is no wonder, really. We who like our beer cold always make sure that debut records from English pop acts go platinum...and after that, things get dicey. To spice things up a bit, Mssrs. Healy and Dunlop are taking a Kerouac-inspired tour/road trip around America, and while on the way, they plan to write their band's next record. The tour's name: "A Chronological Acoustical Journey Through The Travis Back Catalogue: Laugh Out Loud Stories, Scottish Accents, Handsome Scottish Men, Naked Torsos." They've certainly got that whole stream-of-consciousness thing down, it would appear.8 p.m. at The Belcourt, $23. Video for that one song after the jump.

Shooting them for an upcoming Lake Fever Session this afternoon - should be great!
It is criminal that Keane has gotten more pub over here than Travis. Great songs. Invisible Band was outstanding.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to duck out of here before the 37 messages saying "Travis sucks! They're not rock n roll like my crappy East Nashville band who are playing at 6:45 at the 5Spot next Tuesday."

Me: What about Travis?
College friend: They're not that bad.
Me: Oh?
College friend: But they're not that good either.
Honestly? The title of that tour may bring me out.
If you've got a problem with Travis, you've got a problem with yourself. Say whatever you want about them (I'll say that Good Feeling was their first and best record, not The Man Who, as the above pick implies) Fran Healy knows his way around a melody. Plus, he's about as warm and genuine as anybody in music (outside of possibly Evan Dando); thusly, expect plenty of warm, genuine stage banter. Wish I had some fucking money -- I'd be there again to renew my acquaintances.
