The third Friday the 13th of 2009 is nearly upon us, and we all know what that means: It means the third RR Party of 2009--hosted once again by country-parodyin', yellow-wearin', East Side-hangin', Simpsons character-lookin' satirist and songster D. Striker--is also nearly upon us. At The 5 Spot on Friday, Nov. 13, D. Striker will release the latest issue of his hilarious mini-pub RR and perform some of those matchless country gems of his. Defense Wins Championships open, and they make ballsy, riffin' cock-rock--the sonic equivalent of a high-speed car chase in the '70s. Branded Sons also play, and their country-tinged rock 'n' roll is a bit more earnest and a bit less whimsical than the rest of the bill.
In anticipation of next month's show, Striker has "flipped all the switches on the D. Striker Bandcamp page to allow free downloads of the music." Free downloads. Get amped, because there's only one Friday the 13th apiece in 2010 and 2011. There are three again in 2012, but as we all know, John Cusack will be the only human to survive that year.
UPDATE: According to Captain Todd of the S.S. 5 Spot, The Branded Sons and Defense Wins Championships both had to cancel due to "scheduling conflicts." That means the chance to be part of an always-entertaining East Side tradition could now be your band's.
