Love or hate local chart-toppers Kings of Leon, you can probably get behind them for tapping local Nashville rock bands like The Features to open their massive arena shows. Ever since finding out that the brothers Followill were to headline the 18,000-plus capacity Sommet Center on Oct. 16, I've had my fingers crossed that the band would invite The Features--or any other local favorite--to open the show. It looks like my wishes and dreams are coming true...kinda. I'm sure you probably did a double-take when you saw the headline to this post. But it's true: local androgy-goth rockers Mother/Father are either really good buds with KOL or just the luckiest fucks in Nashville, as they will indeed open the band's enormodome homecoming. According to a post on the Mother/Father homepage:
We're going to be playing with White Lies and Kings of Leon at the Sommet Center in Nashville on Oct 16th. Make sure you come out early so you can catch our set, as we're looking forward to connecting with our Nashville-and nearby-fans to share this Mother/Father milestone with them.
That's as a big a surprise as I've ever encountered while covering local rock in this town. Whether or not you like M/F, you've got to admit they're underdogs in the Nashville rock scene. (Are they even playing Next Big Nashville?) So props to KOL for going the extra mile and picking a band that none of us would ever have expected. And congrats and good luck to Mother/Father--we hope you don't get pelted with nachos and homophobic epithets by 10,000 people. And be sure to bring lots of merch! Check out Mother/Father here and get your Kings of Leon tickets here.
