You may have heard of Them Crooked Vultures, the new supergroup? From our Critics' Picks, the sensitive Mr. Adam Gold:
Musical aberrations the likes of Audioslave and Velvet Revolver make any self-respecting rock enthusiast want to approach this decade's supergroups with caution. However, Them Crooked Vultures just might be the band to break that cycle of shitty rock egos canceling each other out creatively, leaving only the shittiness. A power trio incorporating three of the most influential musicians from three separate generations of hard rock--John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Dave Grohl (Nirvana/Foo Fighters) and Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age)--they're potentially the Traveling Wilburys of the genre. With only a handful of shows under their belt, and little more than YouTube clips to feed curiosity, there is a healthy mystique that surrounds this ensemble of well-established vets. At this point the only way to truly hear the band is to see them live, and this Nashville stop will serve as the kickoff for their maiden voyage across the U.S. 7:30 p.m. at War Memorial, $47.50.
Word from our friends at Rocks Off who caught the band's Austin City Limits set is that it pretty much ruled.
