The Raconteurs Nominated for CMA Award

Posted by Adam Gold on Thu, Sep 10, 2009 at 12:24 PM

The fucking musical event of 2009!

In early 2006, a whip-smart blues musician from D-troit packed his bags, threw caution to the wind and headed Nashville-way with dreams of becoming a big ole country star in his heart. The landscape of Music City was forever changed.

Today, that lofty flight of fancy has blossomed into an undeniable reality as Jack White and his wily Raconteurs have just garnered their first Country Music Association Award nomination. The band's collaboration with Ricky Skaggs and Ashley Monroe on the song "Old Enough" has been nominated in the category for "Musical Event of the Year." This isn't the first accolade White has received in the world of country--he also won the "Best Country Collaboration with Vocals" Grammy award in 2005 for his collaboration with Loretta Lynn on the track "Portland, Oregon."

The Racs are pitted against established country A-listers the likes of Brooks and Dunn, Reba, Lee Ann Womack, George Strait, Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis. Good luck and congratulations to you Raconteurs: May you forever topple the class of '89, render Carrie Underwood as dust beneath the heels of your boots and make John Rich pay for all the dickishness he's foisted upon humanity. Racs FTW!

Winning would be great - but I don't know about "dust beneath her boot heels". Ashley and Carrie are friends, have helped each other's careers, and have recently been collaborating on songs. I think whichever one doesn't win this would settle for the other being the next choice. It's pretty good, though, that the CMA temporarily forgot that they're not the Grammys and went for this nomination!
