Not long ago, I decided to boycott JACK-FM after driving one too many times past their billboard that reads, "Men at Work Squeeze Hooters." I appreciate a good pun--and especially a bad one--as much as the next guy, and some of their band-names-as-sentences aren't as lame/sexist. But this is where I draw the line. Lucky for me, my boycott does not require much effort (my favorite kind of boycott), since I never listen to corporate America's iPod on shuffle anyway. My radio is almost always locked on our own WRVU 91.1-FM (when it's not on our local NPR affiliate, WPLN).
How do I love thee, WRVU? Let me count the ways: Curse of the Drinking Class, Out the Other, Needles + Pins, Best of Bread, Nashville Jumps, D-Funk, Nashville Mix Tapes, We Own This Town Radio, Connect the Dots, Liberadio!, The Persian Show.... Even though my favorite show ever, Grumpstown, is no more, WRVU is still tops in my book.
Anyway, MTVu is handing out something called a Woodie to the best college radio stations in the country, and WRVU is a solid contender. So go vote and make them win. Yay college radio, boo corporate sexist billboard radio.
