Third Man Records Open LA Location, KOL on Conan, Green Womb Is a Venue and More [Schedule-y Bits]

Posted by D. Patrick Rodgers on Mon, Aug 24, 2009 at 12:57 PM

Died Young, Stayed Pretty at The Belcourt Sept. 3.

* The Dead Weather will be performing at the grand opening of Third Man Records and Novelties West in Los Angeles at noon on Wednesday. According to The DW's website, Third Man West will be open for a total of just three days, but at Wednesday's performance they'll give away a "'golden ticket' trip to Nashville to tour the original Third Man Records facility." So enigmatic.

* Kings of Leon will be on The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien this evening. I can't promise you that Ann Curry will be there, swaying gently with her eyes closed, but who knows? Maybe Andy Richter is a fan. That reminds me, The Features are doing a few dates with KOL in the coming months, and you can see those after the jump.

* Steve Earle is performing at The Belcourt tonight, with his wife Allison Moorer opening. That one's sold-out as a mofucker, but if you've got a spare ticket, it looks like a handful of folks will shell out some serious coin to take it off your hands.

* Willie Nelson's record of jazz standards called American Classic comes out tomorrow. Color me intrigued.

* Ladyland in Flames, Halflings, No Compassion & more will be playing at a place known as Green Womb tonight. Pardon my ignorance, but I've never before heard of this alleged Green Womb venue. New club? Just a house? Since it might be a private residence, I won't provide the address. But some light Internet sleuthing ought to do the trick.

* Don't forget that Died Young, Stayed Pretty is playing one night only at The Belcourt next week, with director Eileen Yaghoobian in attendance. Sept. 3.

The Features' dates w/Kings of Leon.

September 8: Columbia, MD- Merriweather Post Pavillion

September 9: Uncasville, CT-Mohegan Sun Arena

October 20: Telmex Arena- Guadalahara, Mexico

October 22: Sports Arena- Mexico City, Mexico

October24: Arena Monterrey- Monterrey, Mexico

More understated distain for the super successful (non-country) that call Nashville home.
"So enigmatic."
"I can't promise you that Ann Curry will be there, swaying gently with her eyes closed, but who knows? Maybe Andy Richter is a fan."
I just don't get it, but to each his own.

@bored: No disdain whatsoever. A) It is a bit strange that the shop will only be open for three days, right? I'm sure it's cool; just a bit curious. And B) Ann Curry swaying to KOL in that Today Show clip is just straight-up funny. It has nothing to do with who the band is. Watching an oft-austere NBC anchor dance gingerly with her eyes closed is...never mind. It's OK if you don't think it's funny.

The TMR Store here is open 5 days a week 12-4. And it is the flagship of the franchise. Maybe I have misunderstood, is it 3 days period, then closed forever, or 3 days a week total?
I didn't get to see the Today Show. But I will watch Conan tonight. Hopefully Shaq will re-appear and have a second dance off with Conan while the Kings are playing.
Thanks for the correction on the distain mispelling. caught it after the post. Well played, or touche.
Perhaps I brought some baggage with me when I read the write-up. After careful deliberation I retract my previuos statement.
Going forward I will post as Team Shaq - or something else.

As I understood it from The Dead Weather's site, the only three days Third Man West will ever be open are Aug. 26-28. Which certainly strikes me as odd.
Don't get me wrong. There's plenty of snark on this here blog. Just didn't want you detecting snark where none in fact existed. Unless you count making fun of Ann Curry's dance moves as snark.

And, Ashley, what is it that YOU'RE good at?
Lapping up everyone else's bad ideas and regurgitating them back to this blog?
Have an original idea that doesn't involve slagging someone, for once, and you might be seen as more than the annoying, vacuous sycophant that you are...
so, why does ann curry suck?

Christ, "snarky", who pissed in your cheerios? If you get that pissed about Ann Curry jokes, you might want to consider therapy. Besides we all know that Kathie Lee Gifford is the Grand Marshall of Full Retard Day.

Third Man West is a "popup store." Three days and gone forever -- were you cool enough to be there? It's a gimmick that's been reasonably successful in the fashion world.

Do you guys detect slight hatred from Al Roker to Meredith Viera? I do. Especially when the clips are isolated on The Soup on E Network.

Snarky, come to Mercy Lounge next Monday for my 8 off 8th birthday bash! Ann Curry won't be there, but I will. Maybe we'll make out!

Ashley, I could've pegged you as a glutton for verbal abuse-type. I'll consider your offer...
