Why yes, it is the Queen of Soul herself, and she will be performing in Nashville. Next year. Next spring, in fact. According to the twitters, Aretha Franklin will play The Ryman April 25, 2010--a mere eight months from now.
Franklin's legacy certainly needs no bolstering, but there is apparently a new album in the works called Aretha: A Woman Falling Out of Love, which will reportedly feature appearances by Faith Hill and The Clark Sisters. With the recent success of Sharon Jones, Daptone records and other soul practitioners--not the least of which being Nashville's own Dynamites--it might be time for Aretha to fully shake off the synthy, Babyfaced treatments (nothing wrong with synths, mind you) and AM-lite offerings of the recent past with an all-killer, no-filler batch of that funky low-down feeling. Here's hoping. Meanwhile, this show should be a good one.
Tickets will go on sale Friday, Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. and will cost $72.50-$89.50.
