Kiss to Play Sommet Center Oct. 28

Posted by Adam Gold on Thu, Aug 20, 2009 at 12:02 PM

Fuck yeah!

As you may recall, last February I got to sit in on a lecture by Kiss bassist, P.T. Barnum of rock and God's gift to mankind, Gene Simmons. When asked to describe the band's current stage show, Simmons replied, "Everything levitates." On Oct. 28, you'll get to see that levitation for yourselves as Kiss takes the stage at Sommet Center. That's right, the Scene has it from a source--who is iron-clad in their reliability--that the greatest band in the history of rock marketing, the 35-year dynasty of gargantuan camp, will come alive in Music City three days prior to Halloween. Whether you're a member of the Kiss Army or not, this promises to be a good night out.

The forthcoming Kiss record Sonic Boom will hit stores--and by stores I mean Walmart and Sam's Club where they have an exclusive deal--on Oct. 6. According to singer Paul Stanley, Sonic Boom has the "real '70s Kiss sound." Damn, I was hoping they'd jettison the make-up once again and re-create "Lick it Up." Not. Maybe this is the new direction they're taking? Tickets for the Sommet show will go on sale Sept. 19 via Ticketmaster. As far as we know the current Kiss lineup DOES NOT include Taylor Swift. Also, has anyone heard the rumor about Alice Cooper coming to Municipal on Halloween? Just wondering.

The most overrated band in the history of rock. Once you get past the makeup and pyro there ain't much there.

But when it comes to Kiss the make-up and pyro are an art-form unto itself. To judge them purely on the music is to miss the point.

It's called rock n roll, dave
that's like going to the symphony and saying ..."yeah, they were ok, but the stage show sucked"

If they don't have Ace, they can't rock yer face!
First three albums have some pretty bad ass songs, and I can't even see their make-up when I listen to them. Terrible to see/hear now, but the '96 reunion shows were pretty awesome.
