Ready your flashbulbs, Nashville paparazzi: A titan of environmental reform and a titan of vaguely forgettable, '90s alt-rock, respectively, will be at the Nashville premiere of Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds tomorrow evening. According to a press release received by the Scene, former Vice President of the United States Albert Arnold Gore Jr. and Smash Mouth frontman Steve Harwell will both be attending the press screening in Green Hills. Inglourious Basterds star Mélanie Laurent and producer Lawrence Bender will also be on hand. Yes, this is a screening for members of Nashville's media elite (hah) only, but that doesn't mean you can't be at Regal Green Hills 16 at, say, roughly 6 p.m. to see the oh-so-glamorous red carpet procession. Here's the plot synopsis we were sent:
In the first year of the German occupation of France, Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema.Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) organizes a group of Jewish American soldiers to perform swift, shocking acts of retribution. Later known to their enemy as "the basterds," Raine's squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of the Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquis, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own....
Employing pulp and propaganda in equal measure, Quentin Tarantino's INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS weaves together the infamous, oppressed, real and larger-than-life stories of WWII.
What do you think? Has Tarantino still got it? He's often been hit-and-miss with me, but I--like most--consider Pulp Fiction to be one of the more original pieces of cinema from the '90s. Though Jackie Brown was always my favorite. But that's beside the point--the point being that this is probably your only opportunity ever to heckle two uber-recognizable personalities with taunts of both "Hey Smash Mouth Dude! Might as well be walking on the sun!" and "Hey Vice President Dude! Thanks for inventing the Internet! I use that shit all the time!" Embedding is disabled for the official Basterds trailer, but have a look at a mash-up of some scenes/the trailer after the jump.

Did you mean to write "the rightfully elected President of the United States" Al Gore?
oh god. attention people who still think bush stole the presidency from gore: you are the birthers of the 2000 election.
this is a charming juxtaposition though.. people who think al gore is totally awesome rank in about the same place on the geopolitical spectrum as those people who think smashmouth is bitchin' rank in the world of musical taste..
i laughed to myself when you said Tarantino is hit or miss when he's proved to be one of the better film makers in the industry -- then you continued on without naming some his misses... cant think of any? i then laughed out loud when i realized it was because you're blogging for one of nashville's non elite media sources, and have no critical talent!
one thing im not a fan of is someone who critiques a movie based on its red carpet... before he's seen it. last time i read anything by you d. patrick rodgers.
ps: you forgot "questionable first name spelling by 1. unknown author -- who has too many first names so must abbreviate some at an attempt to come off as more intelligent yet evasive" tag at the end of your post.
Jackie Brown remains my fav, as well.... though I have to say, I think pretty much everything he's done has been pretty damn good. Also... to the previous poster, the "birthers" movement is based out of made up rumors. The 2000 post election APPOINTMENT by the Supreme Court is FACT. Got it? George Bush was APPOINTED by the Supreme Court... NOT ELECTED. Doesn't matter what your politics are... you can't rewrite history, homeslice.
Wow. Well, I did say he's hit and miss "with me," meaning that I don't like all of his work, but I thoroughly enjoy most of it. Also, at no point did I critique a film I haven't yet seen. Only pointed out the mildly amusing combination of attendees at the screening.
But thanks for trying to personally insult me based on the fact that I merely said I don't enjoy all of a talented and enormously successful filmmaker's catalog.
wait a second ...
The people who were upset when the U.S. Supreme Court – following no legal precedent – decided to stop the state of Florida from recounting every ballot during the 2000 presidential election are the "birthers" of today?
I beg to differ ...
This movie is f-ing awesome. I saw a test screening a few weeks ago - it's a little gory but absolutely the best role I've ever seen Brad Pitt play. I spent most of the movie either laughing or wincing.
Janet, come now. Better than "Cool World?" I'll be the judge of that.
Wow Ash, I had to just look that up. Is it like Who Framed Roger Rabbit Pt. II?
@ wait a second:
people get mad about what they want to get mad about. you either accept what youve been given or you dont.
but back to the matter at hand - this movie is gonna be bitchin. a couple i know saw a test screening and said they immediately wanted to watch it again after it was over.
Tarantino has never missed with a film that he's directed. Some of the movies he's acted in though, have been down right atrocious. I mean seriously, Destiny Turns On The Radio? What was he thinking...
If Q is so hit-and-miss, why is he the only director whose movies I anticipate? Hollywood seems to have difficulty coming up with something I want to see. It has been a long time since I hit the multiplex, but I will be there for Inglourious Basterds.
I see some libtards are still smarting over the 2000 election. Personally, I don't have a favorite politician, I HATE THEM ALL!
I thought Smashmouth was cool until they did that Monkees cover.
